Foul Play. Which of you is the killer?
Each of you gets a character with a motive, an alibi and a secret. One is the killer, and only they know it. Over three acts you receive clues about each other, pin them to a shared evidence board, pass secret notes and take turns in the hot seat. At the end you have to say who did it and how. Cozy and funny, with no blood: all that is left of the victim is a pair of slippers, a cap or some sunglasses.
The game is currently in Latvian; an English version is in progress.
Free to play right now. Sign-up needs an invite code from the host of your room.

Good evening. I am Inspector Ūpis. Yes, an owl. No, I do not turn my head all the way round — only three quarters.Inspector Ūpis

How the game goes
Inspector Ūpis narrates. Your job is to talk — and to listen for who starts tripping over their story.

Ūpis lays out the case
Everyone reads the introduction: who has vanished, where and when. The last page shows a map of the scene. Then each of you gets a character — roles are dealt at random.

Your secret character sheet
Motive, alibi, secret and a personal goal. The text shows only while you hold a finger on the card, so your neighbor cannot read it.

Three acts
In each act you get a private clue about someone else. During talking time (2, 3 or 4 minutes) you can pin it to the shared evidence board or slip it to one player in a secret note — and bluffing is allowed.

Between the acts
After act one comes the mini-game “Whose is it?”: which object belongs to whom. After act two comes the hot seat: Ūpis asks each of you one question, you answer out loud, and the others tap “Believe” or “Don’t believe”.

Accusation and reveal
Everyone votes for one other character and can also guess how it was done. Then Ūpis reveals it step by step: the votes, the killer, the method, an epilogue and what everyone else was hiding.
Four cases
Each case has six characters, each with their own motive, alibi and secret. With fewer than six of you, fewer characters are in play, and the clues are arranged so that the case can be solved with any number of players.
Midsummer Night (Jāņu nakts)The lake house “Līgotnes”. By the bonfire its owner Gunārs promised to share news at midnight that some would not like, then went to the sauna. At midnight the sauna is empty. A rural farce with cheese, flower crowns and a feud over a fence.
Opening Night (Pirmizrāde)The theater “Zelta priekškars”. Before the show, director Maestro Bruno promised news after the curtain call. He never came out to bow. A backstage comedy with a diva under a ghost’s bedsheet.
Lighthouse Night (Bākas nakts)A fishing village on the Kurzeme coast, a herring festival, a storm on the way. Smokehouse owner Valdis climbed the lighthouse to light the festival beacon, but it never lit. On the freshly painted railing: only his captain’s cap.
The Last Slow Dance (Pēdējā lēnā deja)Riga, 1996, the nightclub “Kosmoss”. Owner Ēriks “Lāzers” went down to the cellar for champagne, and the lights went out across the club. Four minutes later Ēriks was gone. Neon, pagers and hairspray.
The killer is fixed by each case, so one group plays each case once. The host picks the case in the room.
Points
The killer is caught only if they alone have the most votes.
| What happened | Points |
|---|---|
| You are innocent and voted for the killer | +100 |
| You are innocent and guessed how it was done | +50 |
| You are the killer and were not caught | +200 |
| You met your character’s personal goal | +50 |
| Each right answer in the “Whose is it?” mini-game | +20 |
| The majority believed you in the hot seat | +25 |
What makes it fun
Everyone has something to hide
The innocent have secrets and goals of their own too. At the end Ūpis reveals them all — and it turns out nearly everyone had a reason to lie.
Clues have to be shared
You know something about your neighbor, your neighbor knows something about you. Pin it to the board for all, whisper it to one person in a secret note, or save it for the last act — your call.
The game happens at the table
The phone deals the roles and clues, shows the map and the board, and keeps the time. Everything else is talk, accusations and bad alibis.
Frequently asked questions
Can I play it in English?
Not yet. The game is currently in Latvian; an English version is in progress. This game is the most text-heavy of the six, so it really does need Latvian readers for now.
How many cases are there?
Four: “Midsummer Night” at a lake house, “Opening Night” at a theater, “Lighthouse Night” in a fishing village on the Kurzeme coast and “The Last Slow Dance” in a Riga nightclub in 1996. The killer is fixed by each case, so one group plays each case once.
Can three people play?
Yes. With fewer players, fewer characters are in play, and the clues are adjusted to the player count, so every case can be solved with three, four, five or six.
What are the evidence board and the secret notes?
The board is shared by everyone: it shows the objects the inspector has found, the owners revealed in the mini-game, the clues players have pinned and the hot-seat verdicts. You can pin each clue once, and you cannot take it back. A secret note is a message of up to 120 characters to one player that only they can see.
What is the hot seat?
After act two everyone takes a turn in the hot seat. Ūpis asks their character one question, they answer out loud, and the others tap “Believe” or “Don’t believe” on their phones. If the majority believes them, they score 25 points.
Is it scary?
No. It is a cozy, funny mystery with no blood. The victim is never shown — only an object left behind, like the slippers by the sauna door, hints at what happened.
How do I keep my character sheet private?
Private text — your sheet, your clues and your notes — appears only while you hold a finger on the card. Let go and it disappears.
How much reading is there?
The introduction, your own character sheet and one short clue per act. Expect the game to need your attention for 20 to 30 minutes, so it suits the calmer part of an evening.
